Again within the range of cigarettes I finished the artwork for making a package of wartime “Dutch Amateurs Sigaretten”. On the photo you see an original cigarettes package on the left and on the right the reproduction I just made. For the reproduction (dummie) I used a block of styrofoam (60 x 65 x 20 mm). Even made the tax seal and the cigarettes seal to complete it all.
Because of the Second World War the tobacco industrie in Holland no longer got their raw materials from the Dutch Indies. The raw tobacco had to come from Italy, France, Algeria and Russia. After August 1943 only eight companies within the tobacco industry were allowed to make cigarettes. Five of them only worked for the German Wehrmacht. Amateur Sigaretten (as on the photo) were produced by van Nelle in Rotterdam.
