About two or three years ago I got in contact with Jim Pool about German Rations and paperwork. He told me he had just finished his book about German rations. Jim Pool is a well known collector, historian and author with focus on the topic of WWII German rations items. So I bought his first book “Rations of the German Wehrmacht in World War II.
Jim Pool and Tom Bock have created a masterpiece on a subject that has been long neglected. This book isn’t just eye candy either although its loaded with great, detailed photo’s of numerous catagories of German food and ration related itemd as wel as rare, never before seen period photo’s of the items in use.
For me it was nice to see the packaging of several items. Lots of information for making reproductions. Later I got the message that he had finished his second book. So back to Amazon and an order was placed. This new book is the follow-on work of Jim’s first book.
I highly recommend both volumes 1 & 2 as a superb refrence source to any re-enactor, history student, living historian of the era. The books are the same size so they would match on a library shelf. This a unique opportunity to aquire a vast amount of information on an obscure subject which will become more valuable as time progresses and these books go out of print.
Biography
Jim has had a lifelong interest in Military History and started collecting German Militaria in the 1970s. Growing up in a military household it was only natural that Jim would also pursue that profession. Jim was commissioned as 2Lt. Armor, in 1975. During his twenty two years of service he served with a number of organizations: 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (Bad Hersfeld and Fulda, Germany), 1-73rd Armor Battalion (Ft. Irwin, California), 2nd General Hospital (Landstuhl, Germany), Combat Equipment Battalion Northwest (Coevorden, Netherlands), 5th United States Army (Santa Fe, New Mexico), 5th Signal Command (Worms, Germany), and Combat Equipment Group Europe (Mannheim, Germany). His last assignment was as the U.S. Army Logistic Advisor to the United Kingdom, Quartermaster General (Andover, England). His service awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal. Jim is also a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Airborne and Ranger Schools.
